Well, that is a wonderful family history. Gewehrfabrik Danzig Mauser 98 After World War I, many rifles bearing the Gewehrfabrik Danzig mark were made in the Danzig arsenal using remnants (in many cases) of military components of the Mauser Gewehr 98. Many of them were converted into sporting rifles with such features as double-set triggers and were exported to the U.S. in the late 1910s-1920s. The best indicators to reduce the actual period of production are the proof marks and receiver marks. It is certainly worth recording because original Danzig sporters are not that common nowadays.
