The rifle isn't anything special... no maker markings yet discovered...but as it was sitting behind the counter of a gun shop I frequent, the wood was calling to me... it danced and moved... the ribbons of color were so attractive... it's a WWII Mauser 98... WaAmp markings intact... barrel says it's chambered for .280 Rem. Buhler safety & Remington scope base & rings... I'm sure they pulled the scope off and added it to their used scope inventory (I would too wink. The wood appears to be Claro Walnut with nice figuring... the grip cap, butt pad and "horn" fore end cap are all installed perfectly. After very little negotiation, it was mine, out the door at $350. Gun shops in Washington state are hungry... all the new laws have really crushed sales... plus having a C&R license helps greatly. Now I need to connect with a checkering artist. Monte Manderino suggested a friend of his in Montana and he will be the first person I contact. I've settled on having the pre-64 model 70 Super Grade checkering design applied. I'm sure I'll pay more for the checkering than I did the rifle... some things just deserve to be finished.

Nice. It reminds me a little of my Paul Jaeger.

OSS,\
I recommend you remove the barreled action and buttplate, to see if there is a maker's name written or stamped in a hidden location. You never know what you might find.
