this set could be a practical hunting and camping companion set, and a good starter for a youngster [or maybe not ] : ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/auWphCz.jpg) its a savage 219 with three barrels --- 30/30, 25/20, and 410. the barrels are each 26"

I like those do-everything sets. I have the same gun in 16 ga. and am always on the lookout for a 30-30.

i have several drilings, my favorite is this little 20x20x 25/35 that weighs 6 lb 6 oz. ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/MhRH4P7.jpg) however the set up above is meant for a knock around set, especially for younger folks.

Dear Cable,
your elegant and - dare I word it thus: mince - Drilling is almost identical to one that I possess; only that mine is chambered in 24ga-24ga-6,5x52R. Same kind of underlever (called "Roux-Verschluss" in Germany, althought Monsieur Roux had little to nothing to do with it), shot-rifle barrel selector, and sideways Greener safety. I would love to compare the barel and watertable stamps !
I agree that this is a once common "Schonzeitdrilling" oder "Niederwilddrilling", as they existed between say 1900 and 1940. They were made for the trade (and they show show up in contemporary whiolesalersÄ and mail order catalogues), but the jury is still out on who actually furnished the guns. We had a discussion on this very question recently here on the forum. In practice, and here I fully agree with your assessment, this would have been a nice "universal first gun" for a young hunter or a lady. Not an "el cheapo" gun, though.
The US cartridge variant .25-35 Win *could* factually be used in the rifle barrel - it fits and fires -, but this is usually disrecommended, because the nominal maximum use pressure of the .25-35 Win is a lot higher on the paper than of the continental 6,5x52R. In practice however, both cartridges as of lately seem have to been loaded with nearly identical (low) pressures. Nonetheless, caveat venator.
Regards and Weidmannsheil, Carcano

Carcano/Cable, In my humble opinion, the 24/24x25-35 drilling would have been primarily used to hunt Reh deer and not as a "Schonzeitdrilling", although it could certainly be used during the "Schoenzeit", with or without the low power cartridges made especially for the season. Since Rehwild is classified as Niederwild, I suppose "Niederwilddrilling" would not be a technically incorrect term, but I would consider it a drilling for use in a Niederwild Revier since it would be lawful for some Hochwild. Carcano,
this one is marked as made by Fred Adolph, Lake Genoa, New York state. probably dates to before 1920. i dont think Adolph made it, but imported it and may have done some finish work. it is marked 20 ga 2 3/4" and also marked 25/35.
it shoots directly to point of aim with the standard 117 gr winchester factory loads. it is quite accurate and is choked modified/modified. it is my very favorite drilling !

Generally, Fred Adolph guns were made by Suhl makers, on order from him to meet the request of the "end user" in the US. I'll bet it handles like a wand. Mike

Mike, you are so right. it is like a fabulous bird gun, choked mod/mod, with 25.5" barrels.
his drillings were owned by folks like Teddy Roosevelt, Townsend Whelen and other luminaries.
