Big job for sure.......

Ask him if he wants to attempt another one. Tell him to figure out how much he needs to do the task, and let us know how much that would be. Any chance you might fire up the blue wrench, and take a run at fixing one, Steve?

I’m guessing, like many things in life, that ship has sailed.

But, if nothing else, that is another breadcrumb along the path that indicates a potential issue with those guns.

Best,
Ted

Nope....I quite that kind of work long ago.

Try Aaron Little, he is quite capable and might give it a go.

Parkers in general are not my thing, a job like that really does not interest me.

After checking into it I see that, besides Kirk Merrington, Phillips Gunsmithing in Emery, Texas is another who says they can do the repair. And there are others whose names come up who are Parker specialists. I am betting Mitch Schultz in Connecticut at Gunsmithing LTD who repaired my 21 probably could have done the work. He did a lot of Parker work. But he is retired now.

Talked to Art's Gun Shop, was told around $1000 to repair a Parker Repro, A fellow their said its a major job to fix
the broken lug, ribs, and reblueing.

Dirty Harry

P.S. It seems a lot of gun smiths have a lot of experience working on Parkers, could it be they just have too many parts
in them and are just plain prone to breaking down ?

Yes. If I remember correctly, a Parker has 16 parts in each lock mechanism while a Fox has three. Do the math.

I've asked a few gunsmiths which vintage American double gun comes into your shop for repairs the least. The general concensus is Fox.

And, it's plain, not plane.

May God bless America and those who defend her.

Stan, I'd offer a shotgun with even fewer repair problems and I'll bet few smiths have ever even see them. It's a Syracuse Lefever non ejector made in the final period of Lefever Arms. They are about as brain dead simple and reliable as any ever made. The ball joint hinge is nothing short of genius. And the locking lug, like the Fox is in the strongest possible position. Granted most of them are damascus barreled but hey, I still think this new fangled fluid steel is a passing fad. 🤣

PS: as I see it the lumps on the Parker Repro are totally different than the originals. The lumps on the original are part of the original tubes and after joining Parker milled the dovetail to install the wetical lump (hook, cocking hook, and locking lug). The repos made the entire lump in one piece and then either soldered or brazed that entire piece onto both tubes. So there is nothing mechanical to hold it onto the barrels other than the solder or braze. No thankee!
