Maybe you will get to use this on some big eastern whitetails once you relocate to the Winston Salem area. Not sure what it is like now but when I was living and growing up there up until the Army claimed me in 1970 there was some good hunting to be had south of there in an area called the Sandhills (or Uharrie???) There was also some good hunting a couple of hours west of there in the Great Smokies.

Thanks Perry. I'm already looking for a lease as it seems almost all the private hunting ground is leased.

I wish you success in your search Mike. Not sure what your quarry happens to be but if you are looking for upland birds you may find some to the east of Winston in the I-95 corridor or north of that area near the Virginia border. I assume by now it is all Pay To Play hunting / shooting (whichever description you prefer!!), but at least you can at least keep shooting. At least one of the upland hunts was over to the east above Fayetteville just east of 95. When I taught ROTC in Greensboro I hunted quail and rabbits south of there near Richard Petty's place around Level Cross, actually with Richard and young Kyle once. Good folks and good hunting. And of course, the usual amount of simply shooting the breeze while consuming an "occasional" adult beverage!! I hope you enjoy the area. Best wishes to you.

One other thing Mike. Not sure whether or not you know it, but you are in the area of basketball and football and NASCAR Valhalla!!! You will be surrounded by fans of Wake Forrest, Duke, University of North Carolina, and NC State. Choose your words very carefully during the seasons when among people you don't know!!! Some say it is a religion while others say it is a sickness. I will leave that for you to decide!!

Wow!!!! Those things alone would be enough to keep me from relocating there!
