America's saving democracy in two world wars is not at issue. Those European countries have been loyal allies ever since. Trump has managed to alienate them. Yes, they should have been paying more for defense. But before making them hate us, he might have tried persuasion. He thinks he can compel them to act in his interests. His greatest failure is the hatred and division he has sown. The notion that any means is justified by the end is the source of his failure. It is utterly antithetical to basic Christian teaching and central to the methodology of every dictatorship, whether of the left or the right.

Bill, the loyal ally was America. The rest weren't loyal. They didn't pay their way. They demanded everything of America and gave lip service in return. I know......I live in one of the worst offenders. A huge number of Canadians hated America long before Trump came along. This is something very few Americans understand. And it's very typical of dependents. They hate those they are beholden to. A very high percentage of Europeans disliked Americans long before Trump. It's couched in the Ugly American Tourist trope but it goes far beyond that.
