I've been kicking the idea of do-it-yourself rust blueing around for a while now, and have decided to take the plunge!

My question is: Do most of you that do it regularly, mix your own or use one of the commercially available mixtures? If using a commercially available mixture, which ones do you suggest are the best one(s) to use?

This has probably been asked at some time in the past, but I'm going to broach the topic again.

Thanks,
Cameron

Cameron,
I can't answer your question on which flavor of potion, I use the Laurel Mt stuff becuase it was reccommended as most forgiving for rookies.

If you PM me your email, I'll forward you a good How-To Rust Blue article in PDF written by Mike Orlen that he just sent me. Also open to anybody else that wants a copy.

I like milder potions for my barrels and I have hear Mt. Laurel is quite aggressive and that can be bad news. So, I use http://www.winrest.com or Pilkingtons. Lately, I have been cutting them with water to make the go even slower. Slow is a good thing...

Email sent.
I also included Mike's price list. I figured if he included it with his article, I'll do the same.
