Stephen Nash has a new article on the arrival and acceptance of pin-fires in the UK in Diggory's "Vintage Gun Journal."

Stephen Nash's article on pinfire guns was interesting and informative. The debates among shooters of the time concerning the pros and cons of the new pinfire breechloaders versus percussion muzzleloaders showed that much hasn't changed.

I couldn't help noticing that queries to Artificial Intelligence gave results that were a reflection of what has been written in the past about pinfire cartridges, whether it was right or wrong. So it goes to show that incorrect information and ideas that are Posted in print or in Forums like this can and will become the Fake News of the future as it becomes regurgitated by both people and A.I.

The question becomes whether A.I. will evolve to a point where it can reliably sort out the wheat from the chaff, and facts from fiction.

Stephen said he has literally read every page of every issue of '"The Field" in his research. I'm sure given more space he could expand on the arguments and bitter back and forth - and some of that would be spicy. Some of these letters provide quite amazing insights into gun-making in UK at the time. We tend to think that - ok a neat invention center-break pin-fire was imported in about 1853 to UK and it was so obviously better that is was immediately adopted. Excuse me?
