George Hinton & Son's SXS Hammer .410 Gauge I have been looking at this little 410ga but know nothing about the maker or how common these shotguns were, or their current value. Here was the auction description. ... ... "Made By well known Gunmaker of Taunton in Somerset England, Hinton started his career as a stock maker working for JV Needham of Birmingham, Moving to Taunton to start his own account in approx. 1885, This shotgun up for auction is a ""Fine"" break action SXS hammer shotgun, Features, Front brass bead sight, Blued fluid steel barrels with solid barrel rib, Dual floral engraved rabbit ear hammers and dual triggers, Dual shell extractors, Heavily relief floral engraved reverse lock plates and receiver, English walnut wooden straight grip stock and semi schnabel splinter forend, Rubber added recoil pad, Barrel length, 28.25"" chambered for 3"" with Full and IM fixed choke bores. SN:3541. Condition: Very Good. Excellent mirror bores and strong action, Barrels lock up excellent to receiver, Barrels show 98%+ original blued finish, Receiver is in the white with light aged freckles of pitting turned to patina and clear but gentle worn engravings, Stock and forend are excellent free of cracks and breaks with few faint dings or handling marks, Good soft rubber added recoil pad, Stock has been shortened, Length Of Pull:14.5"" with recoil pad..." https://www.proxibid.com/CR-George-Hinton-Son-s-SXS-Hammer-410-Gauge/lotInformation/100650799all comments would be appreciated

![[Linked Image from thumbs2.imgbox.com]](https://thumbs2.imgbox.com/5c/81/7KCqF0Zp_t.jpeg) Quite a bit about Hinton’s in Nigel Brown, whose recommendation “Rec.” was fairly sparingly awarded. The style of the gun appears to pre-date the 3” .410 cartridge. A picture of the barrel flats would show if it was re-chambered in the U.K. If there is a full address on the rib the above might assist in giving a date bracket. A delightful little gun.
