Gunter said that without the mainspring the Purdey is a wall-hanger. I think I'll give him a call and will ask him about the Purdey. I need to talk about the ejectors on my 1886 Reilly side-lever giving me problems (again). (And if I had my druthers when shooting a late 1800's SxS. . .I'd opt for extractors - never much liked stuff whizzing by my ear/I tend to duck).
