I posted this on the Reilly line. I do not need it. . . but. . somebody stop me: (Ted - you hate guns with gold so your opinion is already factored in).

SN 12893 - 1863: This is one of the finest pin-fires I've seen. The squared trigger back has been seen on other Reilly's from this period - most of them high-end guns. (Holt's is using this site's dating chart - finally):

Very nice gun, but have you checked with Holts the likely costs (even though it is antique on both sides of the pond) of shipping?

I like the way the gold bands circumnavigate the pin holes, even though I can’t but help being reminded of the double No Parking lines council workers once painted round a dead Badger at the kerbside.

Assuming it goes for £1200 + Holt's adds 30% = £1,560 = $2,050.

Import duty TBD: it was $10 for £400 pinfire gun last fall.
Import tariffs TBD: it was $79 for said pinfire last fall.
Insurance TBD: It was £45 = $60 for the piinfire last fall.

Total cost - around $2,500.

This is assuming it is one gun being shipped, no case, unlicensed, no FFL, no Fedex (I pick it up in Arlington - a wise choice with a domestic reason behind it). I would be loath to shoot it though likely would at least once - but I have to admit i would spend that much money on a nice modern painting to hang on the wall. or a really good Baluch carpet for the floor. It cost more than that to re-furbish, re-spring - re-leather my favorite old 1900's library winged sitting chair where I'm typing this post.

It looks like fine ornament for big spacious country villa. If you can afford it i dont see why you shouldn't get that fine wall hanger for yourself. The only negative is name Reilly which is Irish meaning it will be hard to get respect from the Englishen. For some reason they look down on Irish and Scots, not sure which they dislike more? Personally I wouldn't bother because there are plenty of things I could sink $2500 and get pleasure out of. My specialty are lowly keeper-farmer rainy day pieces that can be used on regular basis with shells from Walmart.
