Gil:

I've blown up the pix I have of the barrels and still don't see JA or any other makers initials. I also don't see the crossed halberds of the Birmingham proof house for some reason? They can be very faint at times...

When does this gun appear in Colorado, Lloyd?

Seems you were lucky to find a 28” barrel version.

Ted

This week Ted. I will be competing with all the folks that are trying to do transfers that beat the semi-auto gun ban here taking effect on August 1st. No more "black guns" here after that (w/o a special state-issued permit).

It wasn't luck BTW, I don't do well with anything much shorter than 27-inches.

I’ve handled a bunch of 2” guns over the years, and don’t believe I ever had the pleasure of seeing one built with 28” barrels. I only believe I saw the dozen or so that I have seen at shows locally because guys bought them thinking guns that were floating just under the 6 pound of weight mark were going to be so great to carry.

Then they got around to the business of trying to shoot them.

There are a lot of grouse hunters here. The 2” thing seemed to have swept through 2005-2015 or so. Haven’t seen anything of late, but, that is because the people who are elected to run the metro area have pretty much outlawed gun shows on public property, and I don’t participate much anymore. However, there was a time when you could find Spanish and English versions for sale, pretty regularly. But, I doubt it is like it was, for a variety of reasons.

I have a 20 gauge that literally apes a 12, 6 and a half luscious pounds, 3” chambers, 28” barrels with modified and improved modified chokes, beavertail, open pistol grip, and even white line spacers from the trailer park thrown in for good measure. It was a gift, from a very elderly friend, who never got around to using it.

I grudgingly admit to shooting if far better than I like. I’ve had all the mental arguments with myself, like, why carry a 20 that weighs like a 12, why shoot an inferior load to a 16 or a 12, yada, yada, yada. It comes down to the results are hard to argue with, for me. I’d really like to say that I can shoot a 5 3/4 pound 2” 12 gauge 2” gun just as well. But, I’d be lying to myself, the dog, and the birds if I tried that.

A man’s got to know his limitations. I haven’t sold it yet.

Best of luck with the new to you gun.

Best,
Ted

Lloyd, it seems as though the U.S. Supreme Court has already decided on the unconstitutional nature of this new gun ban law in their recent Bruen decision.

But once again, lawless anti-gun Democrats are ignoring the Constitution and precedent, and infringing upon the 2nd Amendment Rights of law abiding U.S citizens. And a number of retarded gun owners keep voting for the people who despise them and their guns.

I wonder if a certain Liberal Left Free Advertising Colorado gunsmith will vow to no longer support Democrats after this egregious and unlawful attack on Civil Rights???

I bet the answer is a resounding and hypocritical NO... because it isn't about having principles. It's about blind allegiance to left-wing idealogy.

Enjoy your new 2" 12 ga. shotgun.... while you can.

I was describing my recent acquisition for a fellow fly fisherman the other day. Here is how I described it:

A 2-inch 12 is basically a 20 frame w/12 tubes. Everything has been modified with an eye to weight savings, thin stocks, struck-down walls in the tubeset (22-23k instead of the standard 30k thickness), most have 26-inch barrels, short(er) LOP, etc. The stubby little 2-inch shells look funny but they can still wallop you and reportedly pattern (& kill) very effectively.

Not designed for target or even more-regular (heavy) use, they will eventually shoot loose if not used prudently (the tubes can dent easily & the stocks are frightfully thin) so don't drop or foolishly handle one, eh? These are pretty much single-use specialty "birdguns" used for longish walks with minimal shooting, period. Not your average pumpgun guy's choice for a slugfest with the buddies.

The bamboo fly rod of shotguns IMHO.

Did I do it justice?

I think a 32" barreled .410 S X S would be the bamboo fly rod of shotguns (4 weight?).

May God bless America and those who defend her.
