I thought you highjacked poor ed's thread about AI for another rant about cracked frame Flues?
"I've never seen a Smith...Lefever, NID or Ithaca Lefever, or even a Crescent (!) with a cracked frame" is factual, and many more Smiths and Crescents were manufactured than Flues, SAC or BAC.
What is the connection with loose Crescents? Or guns with top lever extensions and rotary bolts? (BTW I've never seen nor heard of an 'auto-opening' Smith. Should we start another thread?)
The point regarding proof testing is that Flues were proved for Nitro pressures, AS WERE BRITISH GUNS if marked 'NITRO PROOF' after 1896.
Pressure with 6 1/4 Drams “Tower Proof” Black Powder and 1 2/3 oz. shot was about 14,000 psi
Curtis & Harvey’s No. 4 T.S. Black Powder was about 13,000 psi
90 grains (42 grains = 3 Dram) “Schultze” about 13,300 psi
90 grains “E.C.” about 15,400 psi

Why don't you enthrall us with your theories of why you haven't seen any Smith, NID, Lefever, or even Crescent guns with cracked frames. I never suggested that you weren't being factual about frame cracking in those brands. My point was that you conveniently neglected to even mention other brands that did, and you had even posted pics of them. Let's see whether you learned anything at all from the money you spent doing metallurgical tests on shotgun frames, and whether you understand how a frame might be either weaker or stronger depending on other factors such as the design, and places where metal was removed during machining. Then explain why the vast majority of Flues guns, including those that have been extensively fired with heavy field loads for decades, survived a fairly rigorous factory proof and never developed cracked frames. I notice you didn't go near the question of why a Flues is worth more than a Crescent in equal condition. A lot more shotguns become junk due to factors besides the rare frame cracking that mainly affects a few severely abused Flues guns. Do you have any verifiable proof whatsoever that the attrition rate for Ithaca Flues guns is excessive compared to Crescents, or other common vintage U.S. doubles?

You now claim you've never heard of a Smith gun that popped open upon firing??? You are either being deceptive again, or suffering dementia, or a "convenient" loss of memory. The subject has been discussed right here several times in the past. I can easily recall the late Miller Fulk mentioning it multiple times himself. You remember Miller, the old guy who you despised because he accurately stated there was no Old Testament Biblical prohibition against slavery. Remember how you tried to twist his 100% factual statement into something he never said? And certainly an L.C. Smith aficionado such as yourself, who also frequently references Dewey Vicknair, has read what Dewey says about L.C. Smiths in his Blog "A Dispassionate Look at the Design of American Doubles".
