I listen to a weekly podcast by the GA Extension Service ag specialists. One of them, a weed scientist, said he had received several calls from farmers who had asked AI what rate to use for selected herbicides. All had used extremely high, and off label rates, following AI recommendations, and had damaged their crops.
Those farmers don’t seem too bright. How long had they been farming? I hope the taxpayers weren’t on the hook for the crop damage that they caused.
Maybe it’s time to take a hard look at the farm bill and start weeding out some of these inefficient/incompetent businesses.
“Some agricultural economists and analysts said the government aid is keeping inefficient farmers in business and motivating growers to keep planting beyond what the market needs.” from WSJ article 6-28-2026
