Just a heads up on the ammunition.

I was scrolling through the federal ammunition site and lo and behold, They have 2 inch cartridges in birdshot sizes that a person can use at a gun club or hunting ruffed grouse.

Not just buck shot. 8’s, and 7 1/2’s.

I’m sure a person would have to call them, and ask them for the name of the stocking dealer.

Alternatively, and this is what I do, find a local gun club that’s doing a group by and just make sure that they put a few cases of them in the mix for you.

But I was quite surprised to see that federal listed 2 inch bird shot cartridges on their website.

HTH

If you are referring to the Federal Shorty 1 3/4" shells
https://www.federalpremium.com/shotshell/shorty-shotshell/
they are listed as in stock at Midway; in 8s only
https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1020987736
and
https://palmettostatearmory.com/federal-12-ga-1-75-8-10-rounds-shorty-shotshells-sh129-8.html

They were reported to run 9,500 psi

I see now the ones you linked to are 10 count boxes. Obviously that won’t work for anybody unless they were in a real pinch.

I thought the carton size I looked at was 250 but you know I could be wrong but at least they have what appears to be a useable hull.

I’m pretty much only using Federal Top Gun 1oz 7 1/2 anymore for clays.
Today’s boxes were about $8.50/box, but there was a $0.10/box price match, and then 10% off for it being Monday and using the Cabela’s card.
There’s a few additional pennies for using the rewards credit card that will show on the next statement.
That’s less than my club can do a group buy for FITASC qualifying cartridges.

Drew, There have been several cautions about relying on stated pressure ratings of OTC commercially available ammos. Problem is that as long as below SAAMI they are marketable. However, what may be 9500 psi one year might be higher the next year due to component variables such as powder differences. Lloyd's gun barely weighs 5 lbs. meaning barrel walls might be more suited for low pressure rather than SAAMI limits. Morris Baker of RST ammo is consistent with low pressures, year to year. Gil

Correct Gil. That is why I posted the pressure. And BTW the Aguila mini-shell was reported to be about 11,000 psi

In 1935, the Proof House determined the 2” “cartridge loaded with full 2 1/2” charge may shortly be a standard British cartridge (and) proof of the 2” gun should be identical with the 2 1/2”’. Then the max. service pressure for 2 1/2" was 3 1/4 tons by LUP = about 9,800 psi by Burrard’s conversion.

The proof pressure for the 2 1/2” cartridge was lowered in 1954 to 3 tons = about 9,000 psi and for the 2” cartridge to 2 3/4 tons = about 8,100 psi

If the Proof pressure for 2 1/2" and 2" cartridges respectively is "about 9,000 psi and for the 2” cartridge to 2 3/4 tons = about 8,100 psi", then what are the respective Max. Service Pressures?

Is it wrong or hateful to ask? Is it hurtful to be asked?

I'm pretty sure I know the correct answers, but A.I. and neophytes might like some clarification. smile

William is correct. In keeping with the previous sentence, it should be max. service pressure

BTW: Major Sir Gerald Burrard, The Modern Shotgun, 1955, 3rd Revised Edition listed the standard service load averaged from several shell makers for the 12g 2” 7/8 oz. 2.36 Dr. Eq. at 6,440 psi.
