I'm fine Stanton, thank you. I think this qualifies as a "catastrophic failure".
I was shooting trap with the Vintagers today at Cherry Creek State Park. The gun was working great and I was quite pleased with it, but...it kept piercing the primers on the right tube and would hang up on opening.
I guess I don't know my own strength.

136 year old wood, eh? Metal fatigue too! You also broke the top tang and trigger plate and bent the trigger guard. A bad day for sure. Does firearms insurance cover something like this? Looks like it might be a total loss.
The NRA has proven itself unreliable and corrupt. Period.

I have re-stocked a beautiful pre-war Merkel O/U that was broken that way.
It does happen.
It is the inertia that got you, the same way full assembled guns break when dropped while in a hard case. All that weight in the butt gets moving and when it comes to a rapid stop, something gives, usually the wrist.
It was a fine looking piece Lloyd, sorry that it ended that way for you.

I'm so sorry Lloyd. What a disappointment. Who looked over the gun before using it? Was there any evidence of a previous grip repair?
