I still can't believe I have so destroyed this gun. If I had shifted my use to the left barrel (to avoid the pierced primers) I might have wholly avoided this disaster.
I tend to think of these older Smiths as huge and heavy and I forget all the fragility that time builds into these things after 136 years...
I got so caught up in the sequence of 5 guys shooting trap (& it was crushing the clays so shockingly well!) that I didn't want to interrupt that rythym so... I was forcing the gun to keep functioning.
Such a waste.
To answer your questions...no evidence of any instability in this stock until that ulitmate failure. Yeah..that top strap separated completely behind the safety...I clearly don't know my own strength, sadly.
