but, during the 70's when austin, texas was becoming a musical mecca, there was an old national guard armory made over into a music venue/dance hall/beer garden. at the armadillo world headquarters, they served armadillo tacos. and during that era, texas parks & wildlife issued an advisory that if you wanted to harvest and prepare them to eat, you should wear heavy-duty rubber gloves during the butchering, to minimize the possibility of blood borne leprosy being transmitted.
another interesting fact is that armadillos are still used for medical studies of leprosy, and they must routinely be captured because they simply will not reproduce in captivity.
