When we lived in Kodiak AK we ate buckets of clams, we always kept them in salt water over night with a few cups of corn meal to "clean them out" of sand.

An acquaintance of mine claimed to eat armadillos occasionally.
I ain't never been that hungry. I saw a recipe for opossum that stated you need to begin by catching the ‘possum a month or so before you were going to eat him, to get him fat on apples and persimmons and clean out whatever else he ate prior. I guess I’d just eat the apples, and call it good. Best, Ted Before they were a real pest, I knew a family who would live trap an occasional feral hog for the table. By the time they butchered it, the hogs went from snapping, grunting and head butting the cage, to round butterballs, looked like they were wagging their little tails at feed time.

I've had gator tail that was terrible and I've had it that was scrumptious. I really think the difference is in the way it is treated from the time the gator is killed until it is cooked.
The best I ever had was from a little five footer that my grandson cleaned immediately after the dirty deed. He marinated it in buttermilk for a day or two after cleaning it, then cut it into nuggets and deep fried it. It was wonderful.
Wild hogs can be very good. We kill enough of them each year to feed a small army, but mostly just leave them for the buzzards.
Wild turkey is so much better than store bought ones that it's almost like they're not the same bird.

Maryland is renowned for Terrapin stew.
Whenever I visit, I get a bowl.
We ate it a lot as children.
Golf course snappers have the mildest flavor.
As I get older, my interest in eating aquatic reptiles has diminished. Except for Terrapin stew.
When we were young, meat was meat. Stewed with potatoes carrots and onion. Catch a possum, keep it in the smokehouse for a few weeks eating corn meal to clean it out. Bon Appetite!
Musk rats all winter too!
Out there doing it best I can.
