That is a Jones underlever or "kurzer Schlüssel" in German, right?

I would hazard a broad guess on 8X50R Mannlicher. Lovely Austrian Mouusetrap w/ Jones Underlever lockup( „kurzer Schlüssel“), Viennese forend latch(Charles Harvey - Rigby) with what looks to be a deep body action? Any idea of tubeset length?

The barrel length is 25 1/2" in the description. If it's marked 8.8mm, isn't that rather large for an 8x50R? My guess would be a 9.3x72R.

No, take a couple thou or mm(0.1 or 0.2mm) off for the Austrian method of measuring and say that takes you down to 8,6mm. It will be close.

For the period, um most of the Austrian Sporting Weapons mimicked the Military Chamberings plus the era would be right @ the cusp of the transition from Blackpowder, which I would expect this to be, to Semi-Smokeless powders.

Looking @ the platform itself, considering it was retailed in Wien or parts East of there, there was true loyalty and pride tied to military chamberings of their respective armed forces. @ 8,6mm, it is a skosh small for 9,3X72R, but I have been wrong once before......

I am fairly certain that I am not a custodian of an Austrian Platform with a 9,3X72R chambering as I am just not a big fan, but I would expect the diameter stamp to be say 9,0 or 9,1mm.

A tubeset length of 65cm is a fine length, bordering on almost being considered short. It should swing very well.

Raimey,
Could it be 8x56R, for a .329-.330" bullet, like the .318 WR ?

Oh yeah, Ford. I don't disagree...... But I have viewed more 8X50R in Austrian combos than 8X56R. As always, a close inspection will ferret out the demon cartridge.
