That particular Darne has a two piece stock. There were earlier versions that a had a one piece stock.
At the factory, rough turned blanks were clamped in a fixture and had the hole for the stock mounting screw drilled. Earlier stocks were attached from the front, under the action, later models (Bruchet built guns) had a 10mm bolt that came in from under whatever treatment was on the butt. My understanding was getting the placement of that hole right was the tough part of the job.
We had a couple of working Liege trained gunsmiths who are French, here in the US, and both were pretty much uninterested in having anything to do with stocking Darne guns. One is still working, one has sadly passed at a fairly young age. In years of asking, I really haven’t met anyone, here, who is interested in doing that task.
Some things look simple, and a guys attitude about it changes when he actually sits down to do it.
