Might be true, but the vast majority of collectible ammo I have is over 100 years old and it still hasn't had any of the issues you described. It looks as good as it did when I bought most of it nearly 50 years ago.
Now I have had old powder in it's original metal one pound cans deteriorate and I blamed that on the cans being opened and partially used, so likely humidity, or just air space in tins. Only one can went bad, but it went really bad! I grabbed it out of my powder storage and when I picked it up powder ran out everywhere! The powder had rotted out the metal container bad enough to almost destroy the whole bottom of the can! It went in my wife's flower garden and got wetted down good. She said it really helped her flowers grow better!
