Sometimes a person is forced to buy something just because... I was visiting a friends shop that had received several guns to sell to clear an estate. There were some very nice Colts and high end Winchester lever guns... those while very nice, were beyond my meager budget. My friend understood, smiled and said, there were other items that were easier on the wallet. He pointed me to the corner behind the door. I found three guns, one shotgun, a combination rifle and a sporter that were priced. This rifle was the first that caught my eye... the claw mount Hensoldt scope and inlayed floorplate and scroll worked checkering were the first things to catch my eye.. upon closer inspection, it was marked "Helmut Dinger Kaiserslautern" on the barrel. Cal. .270. Then I looked at the price tag... $200. I set it aside... that was a no-brainer. I've found similar rifles in auction results online. The other two pieces I left with were a Flaig's Ace Combination rifle.. .12ga / .222. The bonus was that it came with 350 rounds of factory .222. The last, a Beretta A- 303.

nice rifle with even better scope and now you know who not to have handle your estate.

I bought that rifle two weeks ago... for $200. that's why I had to buy it. I only wish my initials were "BOB"...that's the inlay on the cheek rest...

Beautiful rifle! And checkering with it's elongated diamonds reminds me of my two O.A. Bremer rifles checkering. I'd have probably broken my wrist trying to get my wallet out fast enough!

If you're so inclined and know a jeweler he should be able to change that monogram. It could be removed and a silver, gold or whatever kind of inlay installed and left blank or your initials inscribed. On some rifles I've had that done and on some, left them as they were.

I concur with the opinion of the scope. I have a pair of their binoculars in 7 X 35 I bought for $35.00 off evil bay. They're probably 60-65 years old, like new and rival most good stuff of today. Obviously not top end Zeiss, Leica or Schmidt & Bender but they're the equal or better of Leopold and anything in that class.

Wow. Thank you for sharing that. And as already said, you know who to not have handle your estate, unless you are trying to ‘pay-it-forward’ and have him only show it to younger customers.

Personally I'd not have an issue with the initials. And it's part of the gun's history so I'd leave them alone. Who knows, maybe someday you'll figure out whose initials they are and may be someone famous.
