A NICE RUGER 77 WITH A CUSTOM LEONARD MEWS STOCK
It was advertised by the seller as follows ..
Ruger M77 in 7mm Rem Mag. This is an unsigned semi custom that features a beautifully configured stock, jeweled bolt and follower, knurled bolt knob, and custom safety.
I have tried to pin down the maker on this rifle without any definitive answers. It shares a lot of characteristics of Lenard Brownells’s work, but that is just my guess.

- Factory bottom metal When I removed the barrelled action from the stock, I found the barrel channel was hollowed-out. Perhaps for lightening, but more likely for adding weight. Regardless, that's why no makers mark was in the barrel channel. The stock checkering looked like it was done by Leonard Mews. If Leonard checkered a factory stock he would typically stamp under the butt plate. Since the butt plate was glued on, the was only one other place he may have stamped his work was under the grip cap. And there it was .. the
LGMews stamp. Another treasure from one of the best stock makers. The rifle dated to about 1980, so Leonard did this when he was 71 years old. He was born May 5, 1909 and passed away 11 years later on Sept. 21, 1991, so this may have been one of his last projects.
