You may be onto something there, Ted. But, would you think that would also apply to packages they receive?

I'm just fortunate that I can use them to ship and receive guns and other packages. I recently received a pretty little .410 through them. I guess I'm riding on their coattails.

May God bless America and those who defend her.

There is a difference between lying, and being wrong or inaccurate.

It is Entirely possible that the person at the counter (or whomever you spoke to) has no reason to believe (based on their daily experience with the contractors), and what the screens they look at tell them, (which is the only information they have to share), that your firearm wasn’t going to be there on Friday.

Running around calling everybody who is wrong about something a liar just makes the world a worse place.

In order:

1) Because it was obvious when the package was in a different state at 3:00 PM that it wasn’t getting delivered on Friday.

2) There is. This was lying.

3) There was no reasonable expectation that the package was going to be delivered on Friday to any functioning, thinking adult. That would have been OK if that's what they'd told me...instead, they lied.

4) Accurate. But not what's going on in this case.

Geoff, your reply is further proof of damaging projection.
You think they lied to you, because it justifies your belief that they lied to you.

You were basing your calling this person a liar on what you projected from a screen that is notoriously inaccurate.

The person at the post office gains nothing telling you anything they do not believe is true.
Lies are for purpose.

Your misunderstanding of what lying is is tragic.

They aren’t out to get you. There is/was no calculus to deceive you for purpose.

The person at the counter doesn’t even know what the thing is other than it’s a number on the screen. It has the same value to them as lint.

I don’t think they track packages like an Uber eats pizza where Google is showing you turn by turn directions where the box is.

At best, it is bulk processing. The packages get scanned as they get loaded on a truck, and then they get scanned when they leave the truck. For all anyone knows, the contractor’s truck was listed as in, but wasn’t fully unloaded yet because somebody went to the dentist.

These rant threads just show how messed up the thinking of people has become.

Our letter carrier was a man named Bill. We liked him. A Korean War veteran. He had three kids. We all went to school together.
My mom gave him cookies now and then. A card at Christmas.

A far different view of the veteran public servant than what so many seem to think these days.

No, it is not.

Nope.

Wrong again. The folks at FedEx have access to the same info they share on their tracking page.

Not the post office. The purpose was to get me to stop bothering them.

laugh Not remotely. Yours may be though.

Where would you get the idea that I thought they were out to get me? That's...strange. See above on purpose.

If that's the truth, it's unfortunate. Also: No counter.

You'd be wrong there. Packages are scanned via barcode into a location. When that location is a FedEx (or UPS) truck with GPS, you can follow your shipment on the website.

No, the package was listed (scanned) as sitting at the warehouse in Minnesota. Not even to the local hub, and certainly not on a truck.

Not a rant. Truthful example of what actually happened.

That's very cool. We know our letter carrier too. Nice young lady, very pleasant, easy to talk to. Ive seen her out in weather I wouldn't go out in.

25+ years and you haven’t changed a bit.

I’m glad you received your shotgun.

I've changed a lot.

I suspect you're not understanding the situation.

When a package is scanned, it means only one thing, that it was at one exact location at one particular point in time. It means nothing other than that. Without getting scanned again it could get lost in the warehouse, it could end up on another truck going to another warehouse, or it could go on a conveyor belt to be delivered.

If it went down a conveyor belt without getting scanned again, it could end up in a big pile of boxes at the end of a conveyor belt and not move, it could get loaded on a truck, it could end up in the problem area, it could end up on the wrong conveyor belt going to the wrong contractor, or it could end up on the floor and get run over by a truck, or it could just "disappear."

If it goes down the conveyor belt and get scanned it could end up in a big pile of boxes at the end of the belt, it could end up on the floor and get run over, it could end up in the problem area, it could go on the correct truck and get delivered, or get delivered to the wrong address, or get brought back to the warehouse and shipped to another warehouse, or fall out of the truck and get lost. It could get scanned to the correct truck, and end up on a different truck and get lost or disappear.

If the label gets damaged it could end up on a truck and disappearing, or it could end up getting lost in the warehouse for a long time.

I checked with USPS and they are scan based. Not gps based.

Best you can ever hope for with them is that they will tell you the last time it was scanned in.

What happens between one scan and another is anybody’s guess.

It might be accurate, or it might be inaccurate.

If any customer of the US Postal Service is convinced that they are lying to them or attempting to deceive them in any way, the supervisor at the local US Postal Service post office said to “ask for the supervisor and lodge your complaint”.

The US Postal Service is not in the business of lying to people or deceiving them in any way.

Now granted, that was just one US Postal Service supervisor out here in Missouri, and that doesn’t mean there isn’t a cabal Us postal service workers operating out there, enjoying their slacker, lives and laughing at customers that they have decided to deceive.

No one said that in this discussion.

My experience was with FedEx.

We probably have all run into service industry employees, who either come by it naturally or learn quickly to tell people, what they want to hear.
