Reilly he starts with is one of a series of rifles made by Samuel Allport of Whittal Street, Birmingham and branded by Boss, Purdey, Bland and many other famous names in the British gun trade. The late Colin Greenwood in his excellent book on the British Rook and Rabbit rifle solved that puzzle by reference to Purdey’s records which showed the maker.
