There were weight limits on live pigeon competition guns in UK. In 1883 the Hurlingham weight limit was 7lbs 8 oz. In 1882 it was 8 lbs. Plus it has a side safety; my understanding of pigeon competition guns was that they often had no safety. Thus, with that weight doubt it were a competition gun.
A Martini-Henry with bayonet weighed 10 lbs 4 Oz. An M-1 Garand 9.5 lbs before ammo. The Greener is heavy but it's not a 16lb 6-gauge. Wonder if it were built as an 8-bore but not finished that way? I would very much like to hold it. May go out to the Dulles gun-show this November and try to find something similar just to handle it.
