The wads used on steel loads have come a long ways in the last 20 years, and the barrel scoring problems are pretty much a thing of the past.
Using steel, or, for that matter, very large lead shot loads in shotguns with tight chokes almost assures a ring bulge.
People assume ring bulges are a new, steel shot only phenomenon-they are not. They are also not strictly related to shot type that is used. Stuck base wads have caused more than their fair share of ring bulges, as have faulty loads.
The good news is, no-one has ever been able to prove a ring bulge does anything more than ruin the asthetics of a single (like an autoloader, pump, or single shot) gun barrel.
The bad news is, a ring bulge in a gun with barrels soldered together usually messes up the barrel jointing and/or point of impact.
So, you might want to avoid steel loads in either of those two guns.
