Chief,
Dear oh dear. The Scots were Irish, they hailed from Ireland originally, the tribe was the Scotii. Beaten out of here, most probably for being contrary. Where do you think they got their language, pipes and drink?
In Latin, the suffix "Scotus" (and/or Erigena) designated the Irish roots of the person, as in Johannes Scotus Erigena, the Ninth century philosopher. St. Clement Scotus is another, born in Ireland, hence Scotus.
The King family is not truly Irish, as most of them – at least those in the West – usually trace their roots to a bunch of shady Elizabethan Planters who settled in Galway c1600. Best keep quiet about THEM!
“Some” German blood? A bit more than you think, if you are a 14th cuz to the Queen, as she is more German than anything else and her early Georges ancestors barely spoke English. The House of “Windsor” is a WW1 creation to avoid the anti-kraut sentiment. As for strutting about like Monty in a kilt, well, his family is also Irish, from Donegal, though because daddy was a priest in London he was born there.
However, the Kings were closely linked to the Connaught Rangers, rather better than the Scots Guards in many an estimation. Apart from several VCs, making famous the song “It’s a long Way to Tipperary”, they also rebelled in India (1921) when they heard of the disgusting behaviour of the Black & Tans back in Ireland.
Hoping more woodcock leave Scotland and arrive in our shores soon!
K.
