I am quite aware of all that you say, and would not dispute it if I could. There is that old original question, however, of whether the Scots came from Ireland or the Irish from Scotland. Neither you nor I will settle that here. I much prefer Scot pipes to the often puny little Irish "sit-down" pipes, however. The King family research I uncovered led more to Continental Europe originally, Germany, and then Scotland. Not much in this study about any Planters from Galway. Do doubt there were branches hither and yon.

I know the history of the House of Windsor. The family heritage is important enough to me to have studied it. Yea, Cuz The Queen sits on a throne which politically intertwined Germans and Brits long ago into the House of Windsor, a mutual protection society. I appreciate your input and reminders. I have no problem at all with my German blood. I detest the Nazi movement, as most good Germans did and still do, but not the German heritage. Recent anti-Kraut sentiment, I am in agreement. Recent Irish (also not so very recent, going back to the settling of the NorthEastern US) also stirs a lot of anti-Irish sentiment as well, and that's what I was referring to. We may all have a black sheep or three in the background, that doesn't say we brag on them. I'll have to check more into the Connaught Rangers. I'll still talk more about my Scot side, then English, then German, than any Irish side, although I know it's there. I guess everyone has a proverbial, er "stranger" in the woodpile.

Like many on this side of the water, I cared little for Monty. Eisenhower and Bradley did a good job of keeping his ego and Patton's from clashing too often. I am sure you are aware there is still a rather large "underground" cult that keeps alive the notion that Monty had Patton killed after the war in retaliation for Patton beating him to many of the "prizes" he had so wanted. I suppose that also will never be proved nor dis-proved. Little matter now.

Thanks for the history input.
