So, we could guess that the valued properties are high lubricity, viscosity stability with temperature, low oxidation rate, and good chemical stability. I'd bet that all of these properties have been superceeded by more modern oils. Price and unavilability is not the reason for change in industry - if it was really that good, we would see full scale whale farming.
