Here is a nice early Baker A grade on Cabelas. Price seems high but it is in nice condition. I post it because you dont see many with the early etching/engraving. Ross

It's been my experience, that a gun with a pad and under 14" pull is one of the most difficult to sell,, they could drop the 3 and I think the gun would still sit awhile..MDC

Thank you. You don't see them engraved that often. This one is interesting. At that price, it will sit and sit...

While the price is breathtaking, you don't see Baker A-Grades in anywhere near that kind of condition every day. Rev should be snagging those photos and lightening them up for the Baker picture trail.

As I looked at the condition of the wood on the left lockplate, I got the definite feeling I was looking at a refinished gun.

No doubt, if you call them, one of the lackey's will assure you it is safe for all modern 2 3/4" smokeless loads.
Best,
Ted

Sorry Dave: been near Wilcox and Benson on a quail sortee with the pup all day. I put one of the pics on the 'Baker and Lefever Damascus' album http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=18020839 Now have 2 Bakers with that attractive and atypical pattern-sure wish I knew what it was called
I was waiting for the word from the genuine experts as to whether those case colors are legit.

The Damascus pattern on this Baker looks very much like what Remington called Oxford 2SJ. The picture work on the locks of the hunter shooting at the birds the dog has pointed on one side and the dog delivering a bird to the hunter seated on a log on the other is certainly a pattern I've not seen before. Part of that variety of engravings Baker offered on the A- and B-Grades.

Is kind of hard to believe that the case colors on a wear point like the breechballs would be that bright after 110 years?!?

Dave is correct. Here's a nice example of 'Oxford 2 S.J.' used on 1894 A grades

But a bit like this Baker pattern which I've not been able to 'call'

I never knew what the hunter was sitting on because this one has the hunter sitting on a screw....I know...there's a joke in there somewhere...probably about the person who bought the gun thinking it was "engraved"

You're killin' me Robert-do you realize I'm gonna have to move about 80 pics to get that lockplate in the right place on the 'Baker' album? http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=17434920
Thanks anyway!
