Hello,

I'm new to this board and have a question....or two.

I recently purchased a Montgomery Wards 12 gauge side by side with 30 inch barrels. The only Identification on the gun is the number 60023. It has this number on the barrels, finger guard, and fore stock.

The barrels appear to be damascus but it almost looks stamped on rather than real damascus? I've read that some of the lower end doubles were made to look like true damascus.

I guess most of all I'm trying to figure out if this gun would be safe to shoot. And or any other information about this older double. When it was made and by which company.

I would post a picture but I'm not sure how to do it on this board?

Thanks

Pictures would be a great help. Can you send me pictures? I "may" know what it is. I can't post pictures either, but I would like to see your gun.

Sure looks like a Baker, and decent 3 Iron Crolle too

How is it identified as a Montgomery Ward gun? I couldn't read the markings on the lockplates.

The words "Montgomery Ward & Co" are stamped between the barrels about 3 inches up from the breech.

Other than that, the only text or markings is the 60023 numbers stamped on all parts of the gun. The is also a "V" stamped near the hook that holds the barrels on the gun.

I hold with the Rev; looks like a Baker to me. Pretty neat looking gun, by the way.

I believe it is a very late Baker "A" grade. Those are nice barrels.
