What's the truth?
Let's see....you have millions of acres of rich land inhabited by a primitive people WHO HADN'T EVEN INVENTED THE WHEEL and who had done little if anything to claim ownership or, more importantly defend and protect their land. They loved nothing more than killing each other and had done nothing to unite against intruders.
So basically they were ripe for what happened. If it hadn't been the Europeans it would have been from the North or South or....
They were here before us but they came from somewhere else, too.
The USA, like any land, only belongs to its people for as long as they can defend it. Did you think we spend billions on defense for kicks?
I don't have an ounce of guilt. Read some history and you'll see what happened here has happened for centuries everywhere.
