What? Are you crazy? Done little of anything to defend and protect their land (note - you said "their land")? Ever heard of King Philip's war? http://www.pilgrimhall.org/philipwar.htmWe butchered and slaughtered Indians with enormous glee. Of course, they fought back and did the same to us in some cases (Battle of Little Bighorn). But we gave much better than we got, especially with smallpox Check out how Lord Jeffrey Amherst used smallpox infected blankets to wipe out Indians during the 7 Year War: http://www.nativeweb.org/pages/legal/amherst/lord_jeff.htmlOr this charming bit of "how the west was won" history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wounded_Knee_massacreAnd you're creating a rationalization (an specious one, btw). A lot of times, people do that when they're know they're wrong, but they can't deal with the truth. It's like watching the O'Reilly Factor. Hahaha OWD

... Read some history and you'll see what happened here has happened for centuries everywhere. Exactly. The slaughtering of fellow man for land has gone on for as long as man has been around and continues today. Right on the mark again. History is written by a few from their little knotholes and prejudices, then rewritten many times over based on the previous writings with their prejudices. What we read about that happened 200 yrs ago, likely has some important inaccuracies and many half truths.

Yeah, that makes it right? It's not a bad idea, as long as you're the one doing the killing.

You're right, I'm sure those Indians at Wounded Knee had it coming. They must of done something to deserve a good butchering.

If you want to retain your culture - go home - don't force it upon another man's homeland. Fit in, or get if you are a legal emigrant, and just get if you are illegal.

Quite. “Go Home” is writ large on walls all over the world, usually prefaced with “Yankee.” As for forcing culture upon another man's homeland, have you ever heard Appalachian music? Louisiana food? Jazz? All that is quintessentially American came from where? Fit in? Who wants to accept “eat all you can” meals, gangsta rap music and the trite rubbish shipped from L.A. that passes as entertainment? No thank you! Km.

You might just remember the mostly home grown misfits that burned cars in the French riots of 2005. They didn't except the French culture, altho' they were living in France. You've got things a little backwards ol'boy - glad your there!

I'm not here to tell you what's right or wrong....only the way the world works, and has worked, forever.
I don't care if the whites gave the injuns blankets with smallpox. I wouldn't personally condone that but I'm hardly going to lose sleep over what happened 150 years ago.
Like I said, you can read accounts of indian behavior written at the time and it's clear they were hardly angels. The popular modern ideal that portrays the indian as some sort of nature loving, gentle souls couldn't be further from the truth. They had plenty of deviant behavior. They killed each other at will. They lived in an area and when it got so filthy they started getting sick and dying they moved somewhere else. Even the Romans had plumbing. They were a greatly under-advanced society which lost out to a fiercer group of warriors.

OWD, I'm not at all saying any of it is right. Quite the contrary. I think many vicious acts were committed by the US gov in their attempt to irradicate some of the native Americans. Probably a bunch committed by the other side as well. None of it's right IMO. But as Greg points out, it happened 150 yrs ago and none of us here took part in it.

You've got things a little backwards ol'boy - glad your there! Strange argument. Delinquent kids burned cars in the banlieux - they are French, were born there, just like the fishermen who burned (supposedly by accident) Rennes town hall. They are French like the striking airport staff, who drove through glass partition screens at Roissy. They are French like the dockers who blockaded the ports and French like José Bové who did a number on McDonalds. They have the same vicious streak, inherent in the French underclass, which caused the mass murder during the Revolution. I'm still waiting for a cogent argument. Km.

Probably one of the most ignorant, ill-informed and self opinionated remarks written here for some time. Go read a few books. Km PS Yes, the Romans had plumbing (a word they created, from lead, plombum), but the Assyrians and the Greeks had it long before them. When the Romans were using baths, the Britanii were running about semi-naked and painted with woad.
