For me.......neither. The Merkel is probably the better gun, but if I were going to buy a Merkel, it would be an older one. Then you would probably have the better gun. The new Merkels remind me of a Baikal. Sturdy but rough and crude. If I were to buy a new Beretta and had problems, I would just take it to Jaqua's and let them handle it. They are one of the bigger dealers in my area. I have two 686 Beretta trap guns which have about 20K rounds through each of them without a hitch. You probably won't put that many rounds through a hunting gun in a lifetime.
