Did just that test today, after getting enough crud out of the way. There is clearly a bit of forward and backward movement. There is also a bit of side-to-side movement of the front locking lug.

Sounds like a Lone Star beer can and some axel grease from one of my old Jeeps is in this gun's near term future. This will be the first of my old doubles I have had any reason at all to put back on face.

i guess piecing the hook or tig welding the hook is out of the question?if you fix it the correct way the first time you wont have to mess with it again.mc

At the moment there are a bunch of other unanswered questions about this old gun, guestions that will not get answered without shooting it for at least a few rounds of trap, as well as some initial pattern and POI shooting. SO, I do need a temporary fix, one I can do myself for very few dollars. IF, as expected, the gun passes these shooting tests, then tig welding the hook or replacing the hinge pin, etc. is likely to happen.

This is hardly the only old Husqvarna hammer double I have. I have been killing birds (quails to geese) and busting clays with these old guns for well over 10 years -- this one happens to be the oldest, by 10 years -- and the most elegant of the bunch.

Scotch tape fix to the hook on the barrels is great for hunting guns or a few rounds of skeet. (Don't forget to grease or oil the fix before assembling the gun.) If you plan to put a few hundred rounds through the gun at a time, you should opt for the soft metal shim.

Tell me it has the horn trigger guard.... I have seen a few husqvarnas with that, very nice indeed.

This is a plain-jane gun, no horn anything on it. It initially had shiny silver metal finish on buttplate (still has much of it), on sideplates, and on lockbox. It does have a bit of engraving around hinge pins and screws on bottom of lockbox. Hope I can recover much of that by cleaning and polishing. The butt plate does have nice "toe" on the "heel", fences around firing pins and "collars" (krage in swedish) on hammers. Stock is dark walnut -- foreend is lighter walnut, perhaps is replacement.

Tried to make a 0,005 inch shim for the hook from Al-can. It is too thick, no matter what I did. However, the gun will close on a flat peice of the same Al-can. So, will do initial test shooting without any shim.

I hate to say it. But, a lot folks have been posting temp fixes for an inexpensive real fix. A good smith should be able to dovetail the hook and put the gun on face and bolt for around $300.00. Why fool around?

philmurphy - What do you mean by dovetailing the hook? I've never heard that before.
