Obviously recoil is upsetting something. It is possible that there is a spring that may be weak?

When all else fails, take it to a good gunsmith.

The forend loop is the #1 weak part of the 21.However,after working on several hundred M21's,most need just the refinish and nothing else.Wear is the other problem as most are 50 or more years old.If one ejector works, compare the other to it.The loop may be loose as suggested and that can be rather easily repaired. The best part is that all the wear parts may be bought as new.

Just a thought to Joe and others. Could a weak left hammer spring be causing this? With no shell in the gun the cocking rod hits the leg of the sear with enough force to cock the ejector. But the cocking rod has less ooomph to get the ejector to cock when it also has to indent a primer.

CB, interesting theory. After reading your reply I tried the left barrel with a snap cap and the ejector worked like it should. But the snapper did have a weak spring under the cushion. I will try again tomorrow with a primed but unloaded shell too late to shoot anything now without getting the neighbros upset.
