As a teen I shot ducks with a Baker Special, but always felt a second class citizen to the guys with the autos and pumps.
I would like to add one of these autos or pumps to my behind the kitchen door gun collection - what gun would best represent this?

Easy - a Belgian A-5 and a M12, both in 12 gauge.

winchester model 12, 16 or 20 gauge...might even find yourself leaving the sxs at home on some of those fall walks in the back 40............

Don't overlook the Ithaca 37. It is a classic and if you are lucky, you can run upon an example that is above field grade.
I have to admit that the Whinny 97 holds a special place in my heart. A 16 gauge Brush Buster is very special even though outside your 60's dates.

1960s = Remington 1100. Papa's a got brand new bag, and it wasn't designed before WWI.

Beginning in 1950 the Remington Model 870 Wingmaster left all other pump guns in the dust. The ten millionth Model 870 should roll out of Ilion in 2008. Not even the 1100 is close. Available in everything from a 2 1/2 inch .410-bore skeet to 3 1/2 inch magnum 12-gauge you should be able to find something to your liking.

Steel is 'a coming Thorny-I've said it before, but, a man of your social class, and distinction needs a Mossberg 500. If EVER a gun belonged behind the kitchen door, it is a Mossy, and, whine as the purists do, you simply can't hurt 'em-just ask a Marine. That trigger assembly isn't plastic, it's structural nylon, and self lubricating, to boot.
There are two of 'em here, so don't think I'm looking down my nose at anybody. They have been built a long time as well, and might be nipping at Remington's heels at 870 numbers. Pack and Postal has them all the time in the $75-$115 range, and for that money I'm sure it would feel like 1969 all over again. We couldn't have landed a man on the moon without plastic, and those model 12 guys will never admit it, but, they aren't bad handling at all. Still, do yourself a favor and pony up the $10 for a Wolf Creek powdered metal safety, and swivels to use with a black nylon sling. A more useful ducking implement hasn't been invented.

Lowell: I have a Magnum A-5 and bought a Hastings replacement barrel that has screw in chokes and handles steel, so I can shoot a classic duck gun with modern ammo when I want to. I'm very happy with it and suggest this as a good choice for your arsenal. TT

Nothing says classic Duck Gun like a A-5 (or a Model 11) - with an A-5 you can cheat and get a Steel rated Invector barrel. Yesterday I picked up a Mossberg/New Haven 600 with a C-Lect Choke - just to shoot steel and heavy shot in. As Ted says above they are better guns than people credit them with.
