Hi all, Happy New Year to all!! I was planning on having a set of bbls rust blued and the chokes opened on one of my SxS's.
Champlin was recommended to me. Has anyone had any work done by them? If so, was it a good job?
Thanks so much!!!
Greg

JJ is one of the top double smiths in the country and recieved his training in the shop of Marcel Thys. A very good bet for double work. Steve

JJ did a terrific job of re-laying the top rib, adding QD scope mounts, and then re-blacking the barrel's of my Beretta O/U rifle. He also claw mounted a scope on a friends Merkel SxS .375. Excellent work.

I had very good results on a couple of Guns I had repaired there, JJ is very down to earth and easy to work with - didn't seem to suffer from grumpy gunsmith diesase.
He gave me, a double gun neophyte some good advice on the repairs, how far to go, and about how much to spend.

Good but expect a fairly long turnaround time--he is busy. Probably much faster to send them to Mike Orlen for opening and then to Dale Edmonds for blacking.

J. J. is one of the best in the US. Liege school and worked for Marcel Thys before coming to the US. He's a fully qualified gunmaker, as opposed to a gunsmith. I've used him a lot for double rifle work, including re-regulating. For work on top quality double guns, there are really very few in the US fully qualified to do it, and the good ones are busy as hell. When I send him a project, I do so because I want top quality work, am hard to please, and know that he'll do it exactly right the first time. I just send it, and leave him alone. He's never even come close to disappointing me. There are many that can do crappy work on fine double guns fast, but damned few that can do it right. Sure, he's taken a while with some of mine, but I remember the superb quality of the work, not how long it took.
