I have a NID 16ga field grade that needs a pad for length purposes only, I hate pads and much prefer the standard butt plate. I can get a brand new original pad for $65 or a galazon repo pad for $35 , question is can anyone tell the difference between the two when on the gun?

I think they may be the same. Are you talking the sunburst pad? I know Galazon bought a batch of the lately produced sunbursts, not at all aware of anyone else producing them.

Yes Walt, a sunburst, I know where I can get a old original or a new galazan.

dblfever,
A pad thats 60-70 years old may not be too much fun to grind and fit.

Here's the G pad, freshly installed and then aged.

The old pads show the screw holes, I would go with the new pad, however the new ones are sometimes difficult to grind, too soft perhaps. I have had Gunter fit a few and they, like Yeti's, are done right. Maybe he freezes them, I don't know.

The Ithaca "bridge trestle" pads actually put on guns during the 1930s and early 40s have "PAT. APPLD. FOR".

Ithaca must have had a lot of pads made up even before they filed the patent application on Jan. 19, 1932. The Patent No. 1,868,953, was granted July 26, 1932, but the "PAT. APPLD. FOR." pads were still being fitted to 1941 guns.
