I know conventional wisdom indicates not storing guns for lengthy periods of time in slip cases, etc. What about the silicone impregnated socks and "Bore-Stores"?

I use them, with no problems so far. Beretta has some gun socks that use the same chemicals that are in the paper VPI rust preventative wrap. Have not tried those yet but have a few on order.

I had mine stored for two years in cloth slip cases and it never bothered them a bit. I took them out every two to three weeks and wiped them down and I kept them in a heated gun safe, but it never bothered them to have them in cheap slip cases that I paid 10 or 15 dollars for 5-6 of them. I have one buddy who probably has 50 to 60 guns in a (approx.) 5X5 heated vault in his basement. He keeps them in cheap slip cases and has never had any problem with them either. I wouldn't leave them in the trunk of a car in a slip case over the winter like I have heard of some people doing. But if you take care of them, any kind of a cloth case/cover should be OK. I have room for a couple of Sauer's at my house if room is a problem. The only thing I'll wrap them in is my hands.

FWIW, I store as many of my guns, doubles, singles, autos, levers, etc barrel down. I have seen too many guns with the wood damaged by oil soaking. The only ones that I am not all that fussy with are the two with synthetic stocks.

Steve if you'll hit the edit button..."unmark" the top box...then click delete you can get rid of that double post.
I've been storing mine barrel down....I oil very sparingly.
but...I'm begining to wonder if the oil is running towards the forearm wood ?

How long are you thinking the guns will be stored without maintenance. My brother and I just unwrapped some guns that were stored for > 4.5 years without any issues. A fair chunk of money and time was used for the packaging. If you want the details let me know.
