I also would question the re-case-hardening.

I've had a 12 gauge double on me, and, while noticeable, no big deal - though I did promptly get rid of the gun.

There is nothing wrong with a gun just because if has some years on it, as long as it is treated right. My favorite upland gun is a 16 ga Army & Navy made in 1895. I get a great deal of satisfaction shooting a gun made when Victoria was still Queen.
