Per the Bregoli "ribbon & scroll" pattern on the Berettas: Belgian master Hippolite Corombelle has been credited with introducing this pattern to Italy, or at least popularizing it there. Corembelle worked at Beretta mid-Century, and trained many of its engravers.

If you visit the Liege Arms Museum they have an exhibit dedicated to him.

Jeff, some more investigating confirms Signore Bregoli worked almost 40 years for Beretta and did not leave followers of the technique he used, called "sbalzo", that means "jump, rebound" and which is not used a lot for engraving guns. This according to Mario Abbiatico in his book "L'incisione delle Armi Sportive".

Maybe Barry can comment on the technique.

BA, here are a couple of examples of M. H. Corombelle's art. He is mentioned by Abbiatico as being, together with Angelo Baglioni, engravers of special Beretta guns that are considered examples of superior engraving not only for their original design but for the perfect execution.

Here, the top gun is by Signore G. Bregoli and the lower one by Corombelle:

It was interesting that you mention Angelo Baglioni. I have an S3 done in 1946 with birds and scroll engraving and a 1972 SO4 3-barrel set by Baglioni in rose and scroll. I didn't realize he was recognized as one of the Masters.
Thank you,
Ron

Thanks Mr. Dreer, kind words are always appreciated. I didn't know you were kidding But, I was working from a photo as I have never seen an Impala. There is more detail in the gold inlay but the flash bounces the light out of some of the tiny cuts leaving the figure washed out. Ken

Hi JC
Thanks for all the info, I can not find a signature on the gun yes it is a M.Fabbrizioli Figli gun (who ever that is) you may remember this gun for sale on this BBS it really is a pretty gun and in 16 ga. the barrels are marked 1955 (I think the year it was made which does fit the proper time frame for Bregoli). Strangely this gun and its Bohler barrels have no proof marks.
Some day we will need to get together and use some of them.
I will try to take some better pics so that we can better compare the style.
Thanks
Jeff G.
