The price of lead last week in Cabela's for #4, #5, and #6 was $22.99 a bag, #71/2's, #8, and #9's were $49.99 a bag (25 lbs). Yesterday the price was $49.99 for all. Shells from Win. Rem, had gone up $2.00 a box. Gamebores went up the same. It looks like the Estate shells went up also. I did notice that there were some Win Super X for $4.99 a box for #71/2's, #8, and #9, don't know why they are different. Same price for 12's and 20's.
I also picked up once fired 20 ga Rem. Gun Club to reload. They have the same innards as Rem. STS, Premiers. The only difference is in the head, steel while the others are brass. Win AA and Federal Premier are also brass. Also Remington hulls are the thickest, .032, while Win, Rio's (Cheddites) Federals (.375 base wad) are .024.
These newer Remington Premier, STS, Nitros are built like the old Win AA. The new Win AA and Super X have a clear plastic linning around the base wad.
I have been reloading some low-pressure loads in the Remington Gun Clubs, cut to 2 1/2" and roll crimp them for shooting out of 2 1/2" chambered 20 ga. L.C. Smiths. Takes longer but I am only using them for hunting.

There is very limited correlation between the commodity price of lead compared with the price of lead shot and loaded shells. In an ideal world that would make sense but in today's economy it's false logic. Everyone wants to make max profit with less staff and overhead same as the gas companies. Prices may fluctuate a little bit but they're not going to come down a whole lot. You might want to take off the rose colored glasses guys.

Nobody likes to pay $3.09 (full tank today) for gas; but my Volvo S/W is a $40,000 item at today's prices; I recall that I paid 26.9 per gallon for "Regular Un-leaded" in 1965, when my new Mustang cost about $2,300. Automobiles today are sold with "Cash Back" and "Zero Percent Financing," and 5 and 6 year payouts are not uncommon. Yet you never hear anyone complain about the usurious interest rates or high sales taxes (8 1/4 % in Rockford IL), because, after all, everyone wants a new car. And don't even ask the price, because, after all, it's only so much per month...

The point of my first post was (and is) that at present prices when compared to the availbility of ammo, or shooting opportunities, or gasoline, or whatever, we people today should think twice when complaining that things aren't what they used to be. By any objective standard we have things pretty good, not perfect, but pretty darn good.

By the way, when I go out behind the barn to break some clays, I've been shooting $4.19 cheap 12-ga. #8s ammo from Gander Moutain. It's been a while since I bought a case; I guess I better check things out next time I get a chance to see if there's "sticker shock." Perhaps if the Dem's have their way, it won't matter. Further EDM sayeth naught.

Nothing wrong with Gun Club hulls or even the Remmy black hull for loading once or twice. Problem is I have more STS greenies and goldies than shot and powder but I "winnowed" my first two pounds of reclaimed trap range shot last Sunday. Used a magnet on it tonite; got one steel pellet and found a few copper plated. Still picking irregular quartzite fragments out of it. Got to find a secondary screening/sorting process as the "This is a lentil and this ain't" is slow going. Lot of work for four bucks worth of deformed shot but the skeet targets won't know the difference. Working on Ver. 2 of my reclamation device. Well, it's fun according to me anyway.

Hey, I just checked the lead price again - that spike didn't last. It soared up from about 1.15 to 1.62 or so in three days, but came right back down to 1.17 just as quickly. Check the link on the first page of this thread.
