Yup, know what you're buying. Don't worry about what the seller tells you. I'm not nearly enough of a diplomat to correct every error (or even one error) put out by a dealer either verbally or on a tag. It just creates too much conversation and bad feelings. I just ignore it. I have bought some of my greatest guns from uninformed and dishonest dealers. That's just the way it is.

Bill:
I have consigned the Golcher Lindners and the matching Daly Lindners to Ivory Beads. Those and a wonderful Nowatney also. They will be in Vegas . Check out what Jim has and say hello from me. Wish I could join you but health precludes that trip.If you are interested and do a deal, Dave will get his due.
The guns are the highest grade built at that time.
Thanks for taking the time with my young friend, Alex. He has much, other than his youth, to offer us old farts. He is the future of the shooting sports and I am forever indebted to him for reviving my spirits.
Best,
John

I met them both at the Tulsa show a couple years back. I wasn't too impressed on a personal level. On a gun-dealing level, I was sort of moving along the booths a few people behind them (by coincidence) and I was interested to see them buying every loose piece of Parker wood in sight.

I had to wonder why would gun dealers who never sell anything but the most original, unmolested guns would want a bunch of wood....unless of course they were planning to use it to rehabilitate guns.

Reminds me of the antique store near me with a sign that says 'New antiques made daily'.

I would buy something from them but only if I could take a long hard look at it before any money changed hands.

Well, my friend:
Original and wonderful you would have the opportunity of buying if you look at my guns.
These guns were shipped to California several years ago. The were part of a display that was used to educate those interested in Lindner built guns.
Many thousands saw them at the Vegas show at the Lindner Gun Co. booth. They were not available for sale at that time.
I am four years older. My health is not the best. My son cares little. They are now for sale.
Does it matter who shows you a wonderful gun that is far from common? My friend. One buys the gun and not the guy that sells it.
Best,
John
The guns will speak for themselves.

It really all boils down to what has been said before - when a dealer is selling a gun, he knows nothing. When he's buying one, he's the world's foremost expert.

What of your collection you could/would sell and not miss?
You seem to be full of opinions and I do not remember any offers of good to great guns that you would share.
I call your insipid comments and raise you four Lindners.
Best,
John

John,
I only know you from your words past and present but if there is to be a battle of wits between you and Greg, I can only suggest Greg come better armed. Hope all goes well as you part with your treasures.
Best,
Ron

Good dealers, bad dealers. Should a dealer point out a flaw in a gun he is selling and price it accordingly? Some do and I appreciate that. But then there are those- who I call wishy-washy dealers who tell the truth from one side of their mouth and lie out the other side. Here is a good example: About three years ago, I was at a famous gun dealer's store and had bought a few guns from them in the past. (Actually I had spent about $10,000 at their establishment in the past.) Wow!! A Browning Superposed in .410 gauge in about 99% condition for only $1600.00 sitting in the rack. Could it be a salt gun? I just couldn't remember the serial numbers for the .410. So I took it up to the counter and asked the manager (who is an expert on guns)what year the gun was made. He told me 1967. Well, that shot the deal right there. (I won't buy a salt gun.) But then he opened the gun and looked inside and pointed out all the pitting that was covering the inside and made the remark that it was pitted but that it was only from gunpowder. Well, I just played stupid and took the gun over and put it back in the rack. So, he was honest in pointing out the corroded insides, but didn't exactly tell the truth about the dilemma I would be facing. As soon as I put it back in the rack, another guy snatched it up and bought it. I argued with myself on whether to say something to him or not but I never did. I watched him putting the gun in the car with a big smile on his face as I was pulling out of the parking lot. Know what you are buying as someone said.

Ron, I'm not even sure if John is talking to me or someone else, so I hardly think 'wits' is at hand. In fact, I'm not even sure what he's talking about or how it would apply to my comments. Meanwhile, keep your trap shut.
