I picked up a gun this weekend and need some expert help telling me what I have. 30" barrels, choked full and Mod., black walnut wood (?) Ivory or horn grip cap and buttplate that fit flawlessly, some case left on rec. and light engraving on the rec., tang, trigger guard.

No marks on the entire gun other than matching serial #A11615 on everything and a "P" inside a circle on the barrel flats. Water table has the ser# and a "V" and that is it! No other markings. My pictures (friend is posting for me tonight) don't do the gun justice. It has the fit and feel of a very nice gun. The guy I got it from said that it had "Krupp barrels, german black walnut wood and was made in the 30's" Was he correct with any of it? If so, how did he know?

If indeed it is a German longarm and the "V" is for "in stock" or Vorratszeichen, then it could not have been from the 1930s. It would have been from around 1891 or before. Your pic will give direction. Was it the letter "F", instead of "P", inside a circle making it an longarm imported into Austria?

Kind Regards,

Thanks Raimey, The pictures should be up shortly. I e-mailed the gentleman that is helping and told him that I had started the thread.

If the phrase "Krupp - Essen", or some variant, or the 3 interlocked rings for the "radreifen"(seamless railway wheels), weren't on the tubes somewhere, I can't see how the claim could be made.

I completely agree with the last statement. If they are Krupp barrels, they will be marked as such somehow, either with the name or the logo, or both.

Rev87 (aka Ross) is supposed to be posting pics for me. I'm sure he'll get to it soon. Hopefully they will shed some light. They must not be Krupp barrels as I can't find a mark anywhere.

What about the "P" in a circle? Have you viewed it with a glass/loupe?

I have. There is one on each barrel flat. Circle looks complete on one marking and the top of the other one is missing a little piece. Possibly just not stamped squarely.

Shouldn't there be some other markings somewhere? Usually that's my problem...Too many marks that I don't know what they mean. On this gun there seems to be hardly anything.

A close-up pic of the watertable & barrel flats would possibly be of assistance. I'd probably rule out Germany and guess some American maker for starters. If not American, maybe of Spanish origin(Spain or Brazil).

Kind Regards,

Raimey
