Sliver, The outside pitting doesn't look all that bad. In fact, I think the stampings in the barrel are deeper. So, for the outside pitting, I see no problems. From the pics of the inside, I can't really tell much. But, they don't jump out as very deep either.

This bothers me more than the barrels.

It will take a braver man than me to pull the trigger on it.

Joe, That's pretty ugly. But I don't see a structural problem from the pics.

Joe,
It is mostly surface rust. The action is structurally healthy. As I mentioned, I am planning to do an electrolysis clean up of the rust and other crud. It may take another week before I can get to do it, but I'll definitely post pics of the cleaned action. It is now soaking in diesel to loosen the dried up grease. I have found hair inside, maybe those roaches reached deeper than you thought, jOe.
Chuck H,
The outside pitting is probably as deep as the barrel markings as much as I can tell. The inside pits seem shallower...
On a similar note, my local gunsmith measured the barrel ID just before the chokes and found .656 instead of the .669 as stamped. The chokes were RB .646 and LB .639.

Sliver, Posting pictures is relatively easy once you get the hang of computers. There really is no picture there, just an address for this site to find the picture.
Sign up with Photobucket.com and figure out how to upload pictures. It is free.
Once the pictures are in Photobucket click once on the fouth line under the picture. It will then say "copied".
Then go to the quick reply box just like you are going to add a response.
Hit control and the letter "V" at the same time and the address will be copied and you will see it. Hit submit. The picture should show up here.
So many guns, so little time!

Sliver, I also suggest using Photobucket.com
I tried to figure out how to use your site "Flicker" and couldn't post the pic either. Photobucket is free and easy to post pics here with.
