GregSy,
you had packages sent registered USPS lost and never found? Is that correct? I have never heard of USPS registered lost much less damaged.Every person that touches that package has to sign for it,it is placed in a locked cage in the post office and the last item in the truck and first item out, again signed for. If one of those comes up missing the postal inspector would be right one the last name on that package one would think. If you have had packages lost by USPS registered(not priorty or any other) that would be the first time I have heard of it in all the horror shipping stories.
USPS registered as worked perfect for me both incomming and outgoing for guns, slower but never had one lost or damaged.

Thanks to all who have replied. The gun is being shipped out Monday to me from Oregon. I hope it makes it without any problems.

Kazzillions of packages make it undamaged. Odds are in your favor.

For example, I sent a registered, overnight USPS package to another member of this forum which contained a cashier's check for a gun. It never arrived. The local post office acknowledged they received it but didn't show any record of what happened to it after that. They basically shrugged and said there was nothing they could do. Several months later it arrived at the intended destination, torn and water logged. Had that package contained a gun or anything of value it would have been ruined.

Greg,
are you sure it was "Registered" as from what I have been told and the info from USPS Overnight (Express) is not available as "Registered"

http://www.usps.com/send/waystosendmail/extraservices/registeredmailservice.htm

This may be the confusion,Registered mail is very secure but slow in fact they give no delivery time.Registered mail will always arrive safely that the way to go when shipping guns.
