Some of the earlier 21s made in the first year did not have side panels, eightbore. (Later on they removed them by filing them off. And eventually they removed them altogether.) I have seen only one, personally. It was in the low 100s in serial number. It was probably made in the first year or two ......KMcMichael, I have to use gloves when I shoot with a splinter if I am shooting trap. If I am hunting I usually don't. In the summer when it is really hot, I use gloves when shooting trap with my regular trap gun, but only to keep the gun from slipping in my hands.

Bill, if you have a copy of Schwing's book,there is a picture of one like Jimmy is talking about on page 51.

Jimmy W. I consigned serial #22 to Keith Kearcher about a year ago. He found a new home for it rather quickly - I've heard it is currently for sale at a very inflated price in Idaho. Double trigger, extractor, canoe paddle and refinished. The number was close to the ultimate, but not close enough to induce me to hang onto it!

Wow! Low serial numbers are popping out all over. I wanted one with a lower serial number when I started looking for them, but the one I have is about the lowest I have ever seen.

Thanks for reminding me about the early flat side guns. I have never seen one but just looked at the one on page 51. I don't think Schwing told us what number his pictured gun was. My friend's #39 is a standard canoe paddle gun with side panels.
